Dallas Stars Move Forward with Proposed Plano Arena Deal

The Dallas Stars are advancing their plans to relocate to a new arena in Plano, Texas, as the city council approved a non-binding letter of intent. This decision marks a crucial step in the Stars' journey to establish a sports and entertainment district that includes a new NHL arena, with hopes of completing the move by 2031. Stars chairman Tom Gagliardi expressed gratitude to Plano officials for their support, emphasizing the team's commitment to this new venture. The proposed arena will be located near The Shops at Willow Bend, approximately 30 minutes from their current home at the American Airlines Center. The Stars' current lease at the AAC runs until 2031, coinciding with the Dallas Mavericks' own plans for a new arena. The letter of intent allows for negotiations on the design, construction, and financing of the new arena, with the city committing up to $700 million in public funds. The Stars aim to better serve their fan base, as a significant portion of their season-ticket holders reside north of Interstate 635, making Plano a strategic choice for their new home.
