Dallas Stars Plan $3 Billion NHL Arena Move

The Dallas Stars are set to move from Dallas to a new $3 billion NHL arena in Plano, with the team's owner Tom Gaglardi calling it a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" for the franchise.

What's happening?

The new arena will host the Stars' home games, practices, and camps, as well as other indoor sports and entertainment events.

The team is currently standing 2nd in the Western Conference with a 50-20 record, on a W5 streak, after losing 5-2 to the Minnesota Wild on April 30, 2026.

Why it matters for Dallas Stars

The move is expected to bring new life to The Shops at Willow Bend, with a surrounding mixed-use entertainment district developed by Centennial.

The $3 billion development will be partially funded by a tax increment reinvestment zone (TIRZ), with the city's portion of construction costs capped at $700 million.

What comes next?

Demolition of the existing mall is expected to begin in early 2027, with the arena potentially ready for the Stars' move in 2031, when their lease at the American Airlines Center expires.

The city of Plano has approved a $15 million economic incentive agreement with Centennial to assist with the demolition and establishment of a new visitor's center.

The TIRZ will generate over $1.3 billion in new property tax revenue and roughly $245 million in sales tax revenue over 41 years.

The Dallas Stars' new arena is expected to create a power play for the city of Plano, bringing in new businesses and revenue.

And with the team's current success on the ice, the move to a new arena could be just what they need to take their game to the next level.

But the process of building a new arena will take time, and the team will have to navigate the challenges of construction and relocation.

So the city of Plano and the Dallas Stars are working together to make this project a reality, with the goal of creating a world-class entertainment district.

The new arena will be a state-of-the-art facility, with all the amenities and features that fans have come to expect from a modern NHL arena.

The mixed-use entertainment district will include a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues, making it a destination for fans and non-fans alike.

The Dallas Stars are excited about the opportunity to move to a new arena and be a part of the revitalization of The Shops at Willow Bend.
