Dallas Stars Sign Joel Kiviranta to $1 Million Contract

The Dallas Stars have signed forward Joel Kiviranta to a one-year contract with a salary cap hit of $1 million.

What happened?

The Stars signed Kiviranta as an undrafted free agent in July 2019, and he made his NHL debut with the club during the 2019-20 season.

He split time with the American Hockey League affiliate Texas Stars.

Why it matters for Dallas Stars

Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill said the club is excited to have Kiviranta back, citing his versatility as a player.

Nill stated that their familiarity with Kiviranta made signing him an easy choice.

The Stars are currently 2nd in the Western Conference with a 50-20 record, on a W5 streak, after winning 3-4 at Buffalo Sabres on 2026-04-15.

What comes next?

Kiviranta has scored 38 goals with 31 assists in 349 career NHL games with the Stars and Colorado Avalanche.

He added seven goals and seven assists in 56 career playoff games.

The Finnish native previously played for the Stars organization before joining the divisional rival Colorado Avalanche.

He earned a one-year extension after scoring a career-high 16 goals in the 2024-25 season.

Last season, Kiviranta was limited to just 51 games, scoring three goals with six assists.
